URL Shortening Assignment
Sometime a URL (the words you type into the address bar in you web browser) is just too long to type in without any mistakes. If you are trying to direct students to a specific website but the URL is too long you can use this free online tool to shorten it. You can use the automatic shortened tinyurl or you can add your own personal words to the new shortened URL. See the video below and then go to tinyurl.com to try it.
Creating QR Codes
For schools with iPads or other such devices making a QR code might be the simplest and easiest way for young student access a specific website.
There are lots of QR making extensions and tools. One of my favorites is QuickMark QR Extension which can be found on the Chrome Web Store Click Here. Once you install it in you Chrome browser you can right click on almost any website where there will be an option "Encode current page URL" so click on that. Then a QR code will pop up that you can right click on the QR code and click on "save as..." then save it as a picture. When your students are ready you can display the QR code on the screen and then your students can scan the code with their iPads. Students will of course need to have QR scanner app to be able to do this so make sure they do. However once students have a QR scanner app this is the fastest and easiest way to direct students to a specific website.
